While waiting for a late-night meet-up with friends, I wandered into Shangxiahang, one of Fuzhou’s most charming historical streets.
It’s been five years since my last visit — the iconic gate, stone bridges, and riverside lights still feel timeless, though the area somehow feels bigger than I remember.
📍 Location: Taijiang District, Fuzhou, Fujian
🚇 Getting There: Metro Line 1 → Dadao Station (Exit C), about 10 minutes on foot
✨ Sanjie River Promenade
Entering through the main archway leads straight to Sanjie River — traditional halls lit by red lanterns, stone pavements, and girls in Hanfu taking turns for photos on the bridge. A street performer sang Beyond’s songs with a local kid — the kind of small moment that makes travel feel warm.
🎪 Min-Style Lifestyle Festival
During the National Day holiday, a small market appeared along the riverside — handmade goods, snacks, and cheerful crowds celebrating Fuzhou’s heritage.
🍡 Longping Road Night Market
The street comes alive with food stalls and restaurants — the most popular is Deaf Uncle Tangyuan, famous for sweet glutinous rice balls. Many well-known brands from Three Lanes and Seven Alleys also have branches here, like Old Fuzhou Restaurant.
🎤 Open-Air Stage
Before leaving, I stumbled upon a small stage where a young man sang local Fuzhou folk songs in dialect. People sat with tea, listening quietly — a peaceful, nostalgic ending to a night walk through history.
Walking by the water, past the bridges and the old houses, I realized this wasn’t just a stroll — it was a quiet reunion with memories of Fuzhou. 🌃
