My first night in Ningde, Fujian — and the plan was simple: follow the lights, not the guidebooks. 🌆

I stayed near the city center, where every street corner promised food, laughter, and neon. The map said Nanmenkou Night Market, but the bright lights on another street caught my eye first — and that’s how I stumbled upon Huancheng Road Night Market, complete with the glowing “I ❤️ Ningde” wall and rows of street stalls.

Wandering further, I unexpectedly found a temple dedicated to the Monkey King (Qi Tian Da Sheng) — couldn’t resist stepping in for a quick visit. After all, we all grew up with Journey to the West. 🐒

At Nanmenkou, I tried Ningde-style meatballs — glutinous rice wrapping juicy pork filling, served steaming hot in a plastic bag for just 6 RMB. It burned my fingers but warmed my heart.

Then came A-Wang Po Grass Jelly, with honey water and watermelon bits — the perfect chill after the hot meatballs. 🍉

Finally, I queued at Tian Ji Noodle House, famous for its taro noodles (yes, made with real taro!) and drunken ribs — a bit oily, but satisfying.

Walking back through Pengcheng Alley, I caught the red lanterns reflecting on glass windows — a quiet, cinematic end to a lively night in Ningde.
