What started as a casual stroll through Shanghai’s Sunke Villa turned into a serendipitous encounter —

the “City Encounters: Hudec” exhibition.

🏛️ A Hidden Story Behind Wukang Mansion

Inside the villa once designed and lived in by architect László Hudec,

you can trace the layers of old Shanghai — from elegant villas to modern landmarks.

He was the Hungarian architect behind Wukang Mansion, the Park Hotel,

and countless churches, schools, and hospitals that shaped the city’s skyline.

📸 Vintage Newspaper Photo Booth

Visitors could take photos and print them on a retro newspaper-style guide —

black and white ink, Art Deco fonts, and a whiff of nostalgia that felt like stepping into the 1930s.

🎞️ Stories and Memories

Old Shanghainese visitors pointed to photos of buildings they once knew —

schools they attended, hospitals they stayed in, churches they prayed at.

Through their voices, Hudec’s architecture came alive again —

a living link between bricks, memory, and emotion.

📚 Inside the Exhibition

Original design sketches, photographs, and rare footage looped on vintage TVs —

including one hidden behind a bank vault door,

where time and beauty quietly coexist.

As I walked out, sunlight sparkled on the old fountain tiles,

and someone said softly, “These are all from the Republic era.”

Even the ground beneath my feet carried stories.

This exhibition isn’t just about architecture —

it’s about people, memory, and the invisible threads connecting us through time.

📅 Exhibition Period: Oct 27 – Nov 23, 2025

📍 Venue: Sunke Villa (No. 60 Panyu Rd, Changning District), within the Sunshine Union compound
