A short ferry ride, a cup of coffee, and centuries of history —
that’s Jiangxin Islet (江心屿), the poetic “Island of the Ou River” in Wenzhou. 🌊
☀️ From the Ferry to the Island
The hotel staff told me, “If it’s your first time in Wenzhou, you must visit Jiangxin Islet.”
So I did — a quick 5-minute ferry ride later, and I found myself stepping into another time.
🏛️ British Consulate & River Café
The first sight was the old British Consulate, glowing in the morning sun.
Right beside it, a vintage-style café where I sipped a latte while watching the river —
it reminded me of Tainan’s old cafés, but softer and more poetic.
🕯️ Ancient Towers & Temples
The East Tower, built during the Tang-Song era, is said to be one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in the world.
Further in, the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall carries the spirit of his poem “Righteousness of Heaven and Earth.”
It was surreal to stand before his calligraphy after memorizing it as a child.
🛕 Jiangxin Temple & West Tower
The temple’s calm incense-filled halls invite you to slow down.
The West Tower stands by a small bridge and stream —
each level carved with serene Buddha figures, radiating quiet peace.
🌿 Song Garden
At the island’s end lies the Song Garden, filled with pavilions, stones, and ponds.
Locals stroll, couples take photos, and a few visitors in Hanfu pose against the backdrop —
a glimpse of ancient elegance revived in modern light.
⛴️ As I rode the ferry back, the sunlight danced on the Ou River.
It wasn’t just a scenic spot — it felt like a gentle, unexpected pause in time.
A place that lets you breathe, wander, and feel quietly connected to history.
