Sometimes when I visit Xintiandi, I love to wander a little further to Sinan Mansions — a peaceful, elegant pocket of old Shanghai that feels like stepping into another world.

A Taiwanese friend of mine absolutely adores this place.

Every time she visits Shanghai, she insists on walking here, laughing as she says:

“I just love these garden villas!”

And honestly, I get it —

the tree-lined paths, the charming terraces, and those classic European-style houses make every corner photogenic.

You can easily pretend you’re somewhere abroad 😄

Sinan Mansions features 51 well-preserved historic buildings,

a mix of detached, semi-detached, and courtyard garden villas.

Walking here feels like wandering through the elite neighborhoods of 1930s Shanghai.

The first time I came here was actually because of the Starbucks —

it’s hidden inside a vintage mansion!

If you didn’t look closely, you’d never guess it was a café.

Compared to busy Xintiandi, Sinan Mansions has a much slower rhythm.

It’s quiet, elegant, and full of that “artsy calm.”

You naturally slow down here — maybe that’s the charm of life in this city:

you don’t always need to rush; sometimes you just pause and savor the moment.
